HTH Unboxed Podcast Features Partners CEO Derek Mitchell on Regenerative Education
What are we leaving the next generation with? That was one of many themes explored in the recent High Tech High Unboxed podcast episode on regenerative education featuring Partners in School Innovation CEO Derek Mitchell and Executive Director of California Academy of Sciences Scott Sampson, with host Alec Patton.
Derek shared the following with the host at High Tech High Graduate School of Education (GSE),
"For me, being someone steeped in our schools, I feel pretty powerfully that this mission of regenerating a natural world is a responsibility like many others that we’re going to pass to the next generations of young people, because we won’t be able to accomplish it in our time here.
And so to do that, we have to get them on board with this idea and inspire them to be more creative, more powerfully thoughtful, and essentially better stewards of human and natural resources in order to accomplish this task. And my sense is we haven’t even begun that yet."
In this engaging 52-minute episode, both guests share insights on
What “regenerative education” is and why the world needs it right now
What’s happening in schools today
Defining and experiencing moments of awe
The importance of storytelling
What the first steps are that school leaders can take to put their school on a path to becoming a regenerative space for students and staff
How to listen to families, students, and teachers most effectively
